Read Lamentations 2:1-17 and Reference Scriptures Please include other translations in your reading, in addition to KJV (for example NIV, NLT, Message, and Amplified) 

Outline 

1. God as the enemy of Jerusalem 
2. (1-5) The Lord as Jerusalem’s enemy 
3. How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud of His anger (1Kings 8:10-12); Ezekiel 10:4-5; Matthew 5:35; Acts 7:40; 1 Chron. 28:2; Mt. 11:21ff 
4. He has thrown down in His wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah 
5. Standing like an enemy. He has bent His bow. 
6. (6-7) The Lord destroys His own tabernacle 
7. He has done violence to His tabernacle: 
8. The Lord has caused the appointed fests and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion 
9. They have made a noise in the house of the Lord 
10. A city reacts to the judgment of God. 
11. (8-9a) The defenses of the city react. 
12. The Lord has proposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion: b. He has stretched out a line: 
13. Her gates have sunk into the ground: 
14. (9b-10) The people of the city react. 
15. Her king and her princes are among the nations: 
16. The Law is no more, and her prophets find no vision from the Lord: c. The elders of the daughters of Zion sit on the ground and keep silence: 
17. The virgins of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground: 3. (11-12) The prophet reacts.
18. My eyes fail with tears: 
19. They swoon like the wounded: 
20. Longing to comfort a forsaken city 
21. (13-14) False prophets cannot comfort 
22. How shall I console you? 
23. Your prophets have seen for you false and deceptive visions: 2. (15-16) Friends and foes cannot comfort Jerusalem 
24. All who pass by clap their hands at you: 
25. We have swallowed up: 
26. God’s purpose on the day of the Lord’s anger. 
27. (17) The judgment of Jerusalem as what God purposed. a. The Lord has done what He purposed: (Lam. 2:8) 
28. He has caused an enemy to rejoice over you: 
29. (18-19) The prayer of Jerusalem’s enemies 
30. O wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night: 
31. Lift your hands toward him for the life of your young children: 3. (20-22) The agony of the perishing city.
